Lachaux ( Occitan : La Chaum ) is a French commune in the department of Puy-de-Dôme in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It is part of the Arrondissement of Thiers and the Canton of Maringues (until 2015: Canton of Châteldon ). The municipality has 280 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).

Lachaux is about 46 kilometers northeast of Clermont-Ferrand . Lachaux is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Arronnes in the north, Ferrières-sur-Sichon in the east and northeast, La Guillermie in the east, Saint-Victor-Montvianeix in the south, Châteldon in the west and southwest and Ris in the west and northwest.

The municipality of Lachaux is partly part of the Livradois-Forez Regional Nature Park .
