Antiquity & Zadek

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alterthum & Zadek was a 19th and 20th century Berlin architecture firm. The two owners, Max Alterthum and S. Zadek, had successfully tried to get orders for the booming Berlin. Numerous projects originating from her pen and realized under her construction management have been preserved and are under monument protection .

Short Story

The first joint studio for architecture and construction was located in the city of Charlottenburg at Fasanenstrasse 13. Around 1910, Alterthum and Zadek had moved it to Taubenstrasse in Berlin-Mitte and appointed a managing director. This brought them closer to their projects. At the same time, the master builder Gustav Gebhardt, who had previously been employed by them, moved to Fasanenstrasse and continued the office under his name. S. Zadek initially worked simultaneously with the builder and owner of a construction business L. Rinkel and also maintained an office with him.

The architects Alterthum and Zadek acted individually as builders or with other partners, from around 1890 mostly as a joint office, whose headquarters were at Potsdamer Straße  134b. In 1908 the Berlin telephone directory shows the master builder S. Zadek with the note: Office in Wullenweberstraße, Berlin NW 87 ( Berlin-Tiergarten ).
