Maria Schüler (born June 19, 1939 in Großenhain ) is a German radio play dramaturge , translator and radio presenter .

Life

After graduating from high school in Großenhain, from 1957 to 1962 she studied art education and German language and literature at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-University in Greifswald for the teaching post. From 1962 to 1966 she worked as a teacher at the Polytechnic Oberschule Bützow in Mecklenburg and then moved to the main radio drama department at the GDR radio , where she began to work in the editing department of the radio play department. As a scholarship holder from Magyar Rádió , Budapest , she qualified her Hungarian language skills and was one of the founding employees of the International Radio Dramatics department set up in 1970 for GDR radio, where she was responsible for radio plays from the language areas of Hungary, Africa and Asia as a dramaturge. During this time she has broadcast around 60 Hungarian and as many pieces from Africa and Asia.

From December 1989, Maria Schüler contributed to the programs of Radio DDR as an editor and presenter of various women’s programs and from September 1990 to Sachsen Radio Leipzig.In February 1991 she organized a joint program with Bavarian Radio in Polish Culture under the title Neighbors in the Middle of Europe - and information center in Leipzig organized an Eastern Europe conference with guests from Warsaw , Prague , Budapest , Pécs , Kiev and Munich and designed an Eastern Europe editorial team for a future cultural wave of Central German Broadcasting . Like all her colleagues from Sachsen Radio, which fell under the facility under Article 36 of the Unification Treaty, Maria Schüler was dismissed on December 31, 1991.

In January 1992, Maria Schüler was hired as a presenter and editor at Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk and worked for the radio program MDR KULTUR, initially within a weekly European magazine , and later in the Kultur aktuell area . In her large-format talk shows she had guests such as Péter Nádas , György Konrád , Imre Kertész , Adolf Muschg , Paul Parin , Kaća Čelan , Alexander Tisma and Uri Avnery . After a program reform in May 1996, she was offered a job as a feature editor, which she carried out until the end of her professional career in 2001 in a program for radio documentaries that was cooperated with the ORB and SFB.

Maria Schüler is divorced, has a son and lives in Berlin-Mitte.
