Ferenc Karinthy (born June 2, 1921 in Budapest ; died February 29, 1992 there ) was a Hungarian writer .

Life

Karinthy was born in Budapest in 1921 as the son of the writer Frigyes Karinthy and the psychoanalyst Aranka Böhm . Between 1941 and 1945 he studied Hungarian , Italian and English literature and linguistics at the Péter-Pázmány University in Budapest and wrote his first novella Don Juan éjszakája during this time . In 1947 he traveled to France , Switzerland and Italy on grants . In 1949 and 1950 he was dramaturge at the National Theater . From 1951 he worked for the newspapers Szabad Nép and Magyar Nemzet , in 1953 he became dramaturge of the Madách Theater in Budapest and worked there until 1956.

Between 1957 and 1960 he translated Machiavelli and Molière, as well as works by Greek, English, Italian and German authors. From 1965 he was a dramaturge at the theaters of Miskolc , Szeged and Debrecen , where he was employed until 1975.
