The Weimar Contributions are a literary magazine that appeared for the first time in 1955 and, together with the magazine for German studies, was one of the most important journals for literary history in the GDR . Since 1991 it has had the programmatic subtitle “Journal for Literary Studies, Aesthetics and Cultural Studies”.
history
The magazine was initiated by Helmut Holtzhauer and founded by the National Research and Memorial Centers for Classical German Literature in Weimar . The first editors were the writer Louis Fürnberg and Germanist Hans-Günther Thalheim . In terms of content, the focus of the contributions was on the legacy of German neo-humanist literature and the so-called Weimar Classic, which is considered to be progressive . In the first years, the contributions also included texts by so-called “bourgeois” Germanists such as Walter H. Bruford and Joachim Müller, as well as works by younger Marxist-oriented scientists such as Edith Braemer , Hans Jürgen Geerdts and Ursula Wertheim .
From 1957 the magazine had the subtitle "Journal for German Literary History", from 1964 to 1969 "Journal for Literary Studies". It was published by Böhlau until 1956, by Arion-Verlag in Weimar until 1963 , and from 1964 by Aufbau-Verlag , which stopped publishing the magazine in 1991. Since then it has been published by Wiener Passagen Verlag .
