Order : Cod-like (Gadiformes)
Subordination : Gadoidei
Scientific name
Gadoidei

The Gadoidei (sensu Endo, 2002) are a suborder of the cod-like fish (Gadiformes). It consists of eight (nine) families, six of which are only of one genus. The cod (Gadidae) also belong to the subordination .

features

The only autapomorphy of the Gadoidei according to Endo is the presence of X- and Y-shaped bones in the caudal fin skeleton.

In 1989, Markle gave for his Gadoidei, which did not include the Ranicipitidae with the frog cod ( Raniceps raninus ) as the only species, the loss of ligaments between the vertebrae, and hypuralia (bony support elements of the caudal fin skeleton), which consist of two bone plates, as a common feature .
