Ulrich Ricken

Ulrich Ricken (born December 28, 1926 in Wolgast ; † October 17, 2011 in Dudweiler ) was a German Romance studies and linguist.

life and work

Ricken studied at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald and received his doctorate in 1958 from the University of Leipzig under Werner Krauss on scholars and science in French. Contributions to their designation history from 12.-17. Century (Berlin 1961). He obtained his habilitation there in 1961 with the work The Problem of Word Order and the Confrontation between Sensualism and Rationalism in the Language Discussion of the French Enlightenment. A contribution to the history of linguistics and the discussion of the clarté française (French: Grammaire et philosophie au siècle des lumières. Controverses sur l'ordre naturel et la clarté du français , Lille 1978). Until his retirement in 1991, Ricken was Professor of Romance Philology and General Linguistics at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and from 1981 a member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences .
