Gerda Hassler

Gerda Haßler (born July 4, 1953 in Werdau ) is a German linguist and Romance scholar . She has been Professor of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics at the University of Potsdam since 1993 .

Life and career

Gerda Haßler studied Romance and Slavic languages ​​from 1971 to 1974 at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . In 1978 she received her doctorate with a thesis on the description of the influence of language on thinking in language theories of the 18th century . In 1984 she completed her habilitation on the development of the semantic concept of value in language theories from the 18th to the 20th century. In 1985 she was appointed university lecturer at the Institute for Romance Studies in Halle . After she was appointed to the chair for Romance studies at the Technical University of Dresden in 1992 , she was appointed to the C4 professorship for linguistics and applied linguistics (Romance studies) at the University of Potsdam in 1993, where she has been working since the 1993 summer semester. From 2001 to 2006 she was Vice Rector for Teaching and Studies at the University of Potsdam. Since 2006 she has been co-editor of the journal Contributions to the History of Linguistics and since 2007 Vice President and Advisory Board member of the Sociedad Española de Historiografía lingüística .

Research priorities

At the Chair of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics Potsdam, research is carried out on the linguistic constitution of Romance cultures in the following research fields:

  • History of linguistics and its relevance for contemporary theories of language
  • Predication in Romance languages ​​and the speaker in the utterance
  • Structure and function to fixate groups of words
