OSCAR 4 was an American amateur radio satellite .
It was launched on December 21, 1965 with a Titan IIIC missile from Cape Canaveral AFS Launch Complex 41 . A geostationary orbit was planned, but due to a partial failure of the launcher, it was not reached. The satellite was in operation until March 16, 1966 and re-entered the earth's atmosphere on April 12, 1976.
The first satellite connection between the USA and the USSR was carried out on December 22, 1965 via OSCAR 4.
Its COSPAR designation was 1965-108C.
