ANDE-MAA ( Atmospheric Neutral Density Experiment - Mock ANDE Active , also Navy-OSCAR 61 ) was an American research and amateur radio satellite that was developed and built for training purposes at the United States Naval Academy .
construction
The ANDE-MAA weighed 52 kg and had a spherical structure 48 cm in diameter. It was used to calibrate radar systems . For amateur radio connections there was also an APRS - digipeater for the 70-centimeter band on board.
Mission history
The satellite was released into low earth orbit by the Space Shuttle Discovery on December 21, 2006 together with the ANDE-FCal satellite developed at the same location during the STS-116 mission .
On December 25, 2007 the re-entry into the earth's atmosphere took place.
