UoSAT 3 (also UoSAT-OSCAR 14 ) is a British amateur radio satellite .
It was built at the University of Surrey and launched on January 22, 1990 as a secondary payload together with the French earth observation satellite SPOT 2 and five other amateur radio satellites with an Ariane 40 rocket at the Guiana Space Center (ramp ELA-2 ) in a low earth orbit .
The satellite was used for packet radio , but was later reconfigured as a relay station for FM radio. Although the satellite was only designed for a service life of three years, it remained in operation for almost 14 years until a nickel-cadmium battery failed and the repeater no longer received enough energy.
The satellite's COSPAR designation is 1990-005B.
