LituanicaSAT-1 (also LituanicaSAT-OSCAR 78 or LO-78 ) is a Lithuanian amateur radio satellite from Vilnius University .
Structure and Mission
The satellite bears the name Lituanica of the aircraft with which the two Lithuanian pilots Steponas Darius and Stasys Girėnas crossed the Atlantic non-stop in 1933.
LituanicaSAT-1 is based on the Cubesat standard and consists of one unit (1U). It has the dimensions 10 cm × 10 cm × 10 cm and weighs 1,090 kg. Lituanica Sat-1 is controlled by a host computer based on the microcontroller Cortex-M4F of ARM . An Arduino Mega2560 board serves as a backup .
Together with the Lithuanian LitSat-1, it was one of the first two Lithuanian satellites to be launched from the International Space Station on February 28, 2014 , after it was launched on January 9 with the Cygnus space transporter from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport .
The satellite contains a converter for FM voice radio connections. If this is not in operation, a radio beacon sends the amateur radio call sign LY5N.
Since LituanicaSAT-1 is regarded as a subsatellite of the ISS, it received a COSPAR designation with 1998-067EN , which was derived from that of the ISS and which includes the starting year 1998 of the ISS.
