Fox-1D , AO-92 or AMSAT OSCAR 92 is an American amateur radio satellite . Fox-1D is a 1U CubeSat that was developed and built by AMSAT-NA . Fox-1D carries a single-channel transponder for the U / V mode in FM . Fox-1D has an L-band converter (the AMSAT L-band downshifter experiment), which enables the FM transponder to be switched on an uplink in the 23 cm band .

In order to enable a start as part of the ELaNa program (ELaNa = Educational Launch of Nanosatellites) of NASA, the satellite continues to carry the following scientific and technical payloads:

The satellite has a rod antenna for the 70 cm and 2 m band , as well as an antenna for the 23 cm band . Two modes are implemented for downloading the telemetry data:

  • Slow Speed, also known as Data Under Voice (DUV), transmits 200 bps FSK while the FM transmitter is active (beacon or transponder operation).
  • High speed corresponds to 9600 bps FSK and is used as an alternative to transponder operation.

The high speed mode is used for data-intensive experiments, such as B. used for the Virginia Tech Camera and the HERCI experiment. After a successful start, the satellite was assigned the OSCAR number 92.

mission

The satellite was launched on January 12, 2018 at 03:59 UTC with a PSLV-XL rocket together with the main payloads Cartosat-2F , NovaSAR-S and 31 other small satellites from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in India. At 0517 UTC the antennas were deployed over the North Pole and the satellite began to operate. The first telemetry was received at 05:28 UTC. Approximately two weeks are planned for commissioning. After that, Fox-1D should be available for connections between amateur radio stations.

Frequencies

  • 145.880 MHz downlink ( FM , data transmission DUV 200 bps and FSK 9600 bps, 400 - 800 mW)
  • 435.350 MHz uplink ( FM CTCSS 67.0Hz)
  • 1,267.350 MHz uplink ( FM CTCSS 67.0Hz)
