AMRAD OSCAR 27 , AO-27 is an American amateur radio payload , on board EYESAT-1 , also EYESAT A, which was developed and built by radio amateurs from the AMRAD (Amateur Radio Research and Development Corporation) organization. The satellite carries a digipeater and an amateur radio relay for FM radio.
mission
The satellite was launched on September 26, 1993 as a secondary payload with an Ariane 4 rocket in the Kourou spaceport together with SPOT-3 , Stella , Healthsat 2 , KitSat 2 , Itamsat and PoSAT-1 . After the successful launch, the satellite was assigned the OSCAR number 27.
On February 15, 2006, AO-27 registered a distance record of 5119 km between stations WD9EWK in Scottsdale , Arizona , DM33xl and VO1ONE in Mount Pearl , Canada , GN37om.
After 19 years of operation, the satellite failed on December 5, 2012.
