Mount Pearl is a city ( City ) in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador belonging island Newfoundland .
It is located in the east of the Avalon Peninsula , 8 km southwest of the city center of the provincial capital St. John's , to whose metropolitan area it belongs. The 15.76 km² urban area of Mount Pearl borders on St. John's to the north, east and south and Paradise to the west .
The population in the 2016 census was 22,957. Five years earlier it was 24,284.
