Angela Denoke

Angela Denoke (born November 27, 1961 in Stade ) is a German opera , lied and concert singer ( soprano ). She is one of the leading singers of her generation.

Life

Angela Denoke grew up with two siblings in a musical family in Stade. At the age of four she discovered the piano as an instrument and played it in public for the first time at the age of 6. She first studied school music before taking up singing studies at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater with Ingrid Kremling .

Angela Denoke received her first engagement at the Ulm Theater from 1992–1996 . There she sang Fiordiligi ( Così fan tutte ), Donna Anna ( Don Giovanni ) and Agathe ( Der Freischütz ). Angela Denoke also sang the title role of Marschallin in ( Der Rosenkavalier ) by Richard Strauss at Theater Ulm, in a production by Peter Pikl , under the musical direction of James Allen Gähres , in September 1994. This was also her debut as Marschallin. From 1996 to 2000 she was part of the Stuttgart Opera ensemble , where she sang Eva ( Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg ), Lisa ( Pique Dame ), Marie ( Wozzeck ), Sieglinde ( Die Walküre ) and Marschallin ( Der Rosenkavalier ).

Angela Denoke made her debut as Marschallin at the Vienna State Opera in 1997. In 2000 Elisabeth in Tannhäuser , Tatjana in Eugen Onegin and Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow followed , in 2002 the title role in Jenůfa , 2004 Marietta in Die tote Stadt in coproduction with the Salzburg Festival and Kundry in Parsifal , in 2007 the title role in Arabella , 2009/2010 the title roles in Salome and Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk and in 2016 the role of the sexton in Jenůfa . In 1997 she sang Marie ( Wozzeck ) at the Salzburg Festival, the title role in Káťa Kabanová in 1998 and in 2015 in The Conquest of Mexico by Wolfgang Rihm .

Other roles in Denoke are Elsa ( Lohengrin ), Chrysothemis ( Elektra ), the daughter ( Cardillac ), Emilia Marty ( The Makropulos Affair ), Judit ( Bluebeard's Castle ) and the Queen in Hans Heiling . In 2013 she made her debut at the Opera di Roma as Adriano ( Rienzi ).

Angela Denoke sings at the following opera stages: Metropolitan Opera (debut: Marschallin 2005), Covent Garden Opera , Bavarian State Opera Munich (debut: Salome 2006), Semperoper , Gran Teatre del Liceu , Opéra National de Paris , Théâtre du Châtelet Paris, State Opera Berlin , Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam , Teatro Real Madrid , Hamburg State Opera , as well as in San Francisco and Chicago.

In opera and concerts she has worked with conductors such as Claudio Abbado , Daniel Barenboim , Sylvain Cambreling , Christoph Eschenbach , James Allen Gähres , Hartmut Haenchen , Zubin Mehta , Ingo Metzmacher , Kent Nagano , Seiji Ozawa , Mikhail Pletnev , Sir Simon Rattle , Donald Runnicles , Esa-Pekka Salonen , Giuseppe Sinopoli , Stefan Soltesz and Christian Thielemann .

Several CD and video productions, radio and television appearances document her artistic activity.

Angela Denoke is a member of the Free Academy of the Arts Hamburg .
