Sauviat is a place and a central French community ( commune ) with 542 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Puy-de-Dôme in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (before 2016 Auvergne ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Thiers and the canton of Les Monts du Livradois (until 2015 Courpière ).

Sauviat is located about 32 kilometers east-southeast of Clermont-Ferrand on the Dore , which borders the municipality in the west and south. Sauviat is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Courpière in the north, Augerolles in the east, Tours-sur-Meymont in the south, Domaize in the south and southwest and Saint-Flour in the west.
