The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Thiers and the canton of Les Monts du Livradois (until 2015 Courpière ).

location

Sauviat is located about 32 kilometers east-southeast of Clermont-Ferrand on the Dore , which borders the municipality in the west and south. Sauviat is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Courpière in the north, Augerolles in the east, Tours-sur-Meymont in the south, Domaize in the south and southwest and Saint-Flour in the west.
