The canton Besse-et-Saint-Anastaise was 2015 a French constituency in the Arrondissement Issoire in the Puy-de-Dôme in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . Lionel Gay was the last representative in the General Council of the Département from 2008 to 2015.
history
The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of what was then the "District of Besse". With the establishment of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was assigned to the then Arrondissements Issoire and redesigned.

geography
The canton bordered the cantons of Rochefort-Montagne and Saint-Amant-Tallende in the Arrondissement of Clermont-Ferrand to the northwest and north , the canton of Champeix to the northeast, the canton of Ardes to the southeast, and the canton of Condat in the arrondissement of Saint-Flour to the south in the Cantal department and in the west to the canton of La Tour-d'Auvergne .
