The Canton of Champeix was 2015 a French canton in the Arrondissement Issoire in the Puy-de-Dôme and the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; its main town was Champeix , and Luc Tixier was the last representative in the General Council of the Département from 2004 to 2015. The canton was 159.40 km² and had (2006) 6,462 inhabitants, which corresponded to a population density of 41 inhabitants per km². It was on average at 579 meters above sea level , between 365 m in Neschers and 1,033 m in Courgoul .
