Jakovany (1927-1948 Hungarian Slovak "Jakoviany" Jákórésze - until 1907 Jakoris is a municipality in) east of Slovakia with 338 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Sabinov , a district of the Prešovský kraj , as well as to the traditional Šariš landscape .
geography
The municipality is located on the southern slope of the Čergov Mountains in the Jakoviansky potok valley (also called Jakovenka ) in the Torysa catchment area . The center of the village is at an altitude of 507 m nm and is seven and a half kilometers from Sabinov .
Neighboring communities are Olejníkov in the north, Červená Voda in the east, Pečovská Nová Ves in the south and Ľutina in the west.
history
Jakovany was first mentioned in writing in 1314 as Jakorezy . In 1427 a tax register recorded 18 portals . Later the farmers lost their land and became impoverished, so that in 1600 there were 18 houses exclusively inhabited by subjects. The village was initially under the rule of Sharosh Castle and became the property of the Péchy family in the 16th century , who kept their goods in the village until the 20th century. In 1787 the village had 28 houses and 177 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 35 houses and 281 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and forest workers.
The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, agriculture was the main source of income for the population. After the Second World War, part of the population worked in industrial plants in cities such as Sabinov and Košice .

According to the 2011 census, Jakovany had 346 residents, all of them Slovaks .
297 residents supported the Greek Catholic Church, 47 residents the Roman Catholic Church and one resident of the Orthodox Church. The denomination of one resident was not determined.
