Kurt Poltiniak

Kurt Poltiniak (born July 7, 1908 in Berlin , † March 11, 1976 in Potsdam ) was a German caricaturist and illustrator .

Life

Poltiniak was born in Berlin in 1908. He took his first artistic courses at the crafts and arts and crafts school. Poltiniak then studied at the Berlin Art College and then worked as a commercial artist and freelance press illustrator for “Red Pepper” and “Wahren Jacob”, among others. In 1931 he joined the KPD. He was a member of the Association of Revolutionary Visual Artists in Germany . In 1933 he was interned in the Oranienburg concentration camp and banned from working by the National Socialists. After the war, Poltiniak drew for the newspaper “ Daily Rundschau ” of the Soviet military administration in Germany (SMAD). He was one of the founders of the satirical newspaper "Frischer Wind", which was followed in 1954 by " Eulenspiegel ". Poltiniak died in Potsdam in 1976. Part of his drawing legacy is held by the House of History Foundation of the Federal Republic of Germany .
