Kamenica (Hungarian Tarkő - older also Kamenyica ) is a municipality with around 1850 inhabitants in Slovakia . It is located 4 kilometers north of the town of Lipany at the foot of the Čergov Mountains and belongs to the Okres Sabinov .
The first written mention of Kamenica comes from 1275.
Attractions
In the east of the village lie the ruins of the Kamenica Castle on a rocky hill , which was originally called Thorku . The castle was built by Dietrich Tarczay in 1248 and was owned by the Tarcay until it was destroyed by imperial troops in 1558 . Large parts of the old walls were removed in 1816 and used as building material for a schnapps distillery in the neighboring village of Lúčka .
