Milpoš is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 668 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Sabinov , a district of the Prešovský kraj , as well as to the traditional Šariš landscape .
geography
The municipality is located on the south-western slope of the Čergov Mountains in the valley of the Milpošský creek in the Torysa catchment area . The center of the village is at an altitude of 510 m nm and is eight kilometers from Lipany and 12 kilometers from Sabinov .
Neighboring municipalities are Lúčka in the west, Kamenica in the north-west and north, Hanigovce in the east, Červenica pri Sabinove and Rožkovany in the south and Lipany in the south-west.
history
The place arose in the early 15th century in the territory of the nearby Hanigovce Castle , whose subjects lived here from cattle farming and built a small hamlet with a chapel. Written sources are sparse at this time. In the 17th century the inhabitants worked as charcoal burners , and in 1775 the name of the place is recorded as Puszta Hanigocz alias Milpos . The place name should also be derived from the charcoal-burning plant: mil denotes a wood deposit and poš its covering made of clay and morass.
The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. On January 1, 1950, Milpoš became an independent municipality by hiving off from the Hanigovce municipality.

According to the census in 2011 lived in Milpoš 676 inhabitants, of which 666 Slovaks , two Roma and Czechs and Russine . Five residents gave no information about their ethnicity .
458 residents supported the Greek Catholic Church, 191 residents the Roman Catholic Church, three residents the Orthodox Church and one resident of the Evangelical Church AB. Eight residents were non-denominational and 15 residents had no denomination.
