Jarovnice (until 1927 Slovak and "Jaronivce"; German Jarownitz , Hungarian Jernye ) is a municipality in the northeastern Slovakia . It is located in the Šarišská vrchovina (Sharosher Mountains) on the Malá Svinka river , 6 km from Sabinov and 16 km from Prešov .
It was first mentioned in writing in 1262. In 1998, the village and the neighboring communities of Uzovské Pekľany and Renčišov were flooded by a thousand-year flood, with 50 victims. Today the community has more than 6000 inhabitants, 80% of whom are Roma .
In addition to the main town, the village Močidľany , which was incorporated in 1970, belongs to the municipality .
