Hubošovce (until 1948 Slovak "Gombošovce"; Hungarian Gombosszentgyörgy - to 1902 Gombosfalu ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 532 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Sabinov , a district of the Prešovský kraj , as well as to the traditional Šariš landscape .

geography

The municipality is located in the northeastern part of the Spišsko-šarišské medzihorie mountain range in the valley of the Dzikov brook in the Torysa catchment area . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 355  m nm and is 12 kilometers from Sabinov and 13 kilometers from Prešov .

Also part of the municipality is the former municipality Svätý Jur (also Svätý Ďur, Hungarian Szentgyörgy , mentioned for the first time in 1307 as Sanctus Georgius ) south of the main town.

Neighboring municipalities are Ratvaj in the north, Terňa in the east, Gregorovce in the south, Uzovce in the west and Bodovce in the northwest.

history

Church in Svätý Jur

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1409 as Kysfalu and was owned by the Tekule family . In 1427, 18 porta were recorded in a tax register. At around the same time, members of the Gombos family settled in the village, who were lords of the manor until the 19th century with brief interruptions and after whom the place Gombosfalu (1435) was named. In 1787 the village had 39 houses and 367 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 47 houses and 398 inhabitants

The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, agriculture was the main source of income for the population.

According to the 2011 census, 459 people lived in Hubošovce, of which 446 were Slovaks and two Czechs . 11 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .

432 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church and six residents to the Greek Catholic Church. Seven residents had no denomination and 14 residents had no denomination.
