Gregorovce (until 1948 Slovak "Gergelak" - to 1927 "Gergeľak"; Hungarian Gergelylaka ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 867 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) in Prešov District , part of the Prešovský kraj , and is the traditional landscape Šariš counted.
geography
The village is located in the northern part of the Šarišská vrchovina mountains in the valley of the Dzikov brook . The center of the village is at an altitude of 304 m nm and is five kilometers from Veľký Šariš and 10 kilometers from Prešov .
Neighboring municipalities are Uzovce and Hubošovce in the north, Terňa in the east, Veľký Šariš in the south and Šarišské Michaľany in the west.
history
In today's municipality there was a Neolithic settlement of the Bükker culture and later the Lengyel culture , further settlements followed in the Hallstatt and Roman times.
Gregorovce was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1248 as Gregorfalva and was then part of the territory of the nearby Sharosch Castle , before the village belonged to the estate of the diocese of Erlau . In 1278 the village became the property of the landed aristocracy, in 1427 it was taxed at eight porta . In 1739 the whole place burned down. In 1787 the village had 70 houses and 454 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 70 houses and 534 inhabitants who were employed as farmers.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 806 people lived in Gregorovce, including 787 Slovaks , three Ukrainians , two Russians and one Russian . 13 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
661 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 61 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, nine residents to the Greek Catholic Church, seven residents to the Orthodox Church and one resident to the Reformed Church; two residents professed a different denomination. 38 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 27 residents was not determined.
