Záhradné (until 1948 Slovak "Sedikart" - until 1927 "Šedzikart"; Hungarian Szedikert ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 1,059 (December 31, 2019) in Prešov District of, part kraj Prešovský , and is the traditional Landscape Šariš counted.
geography
The municipality is located on the northeastern edge of the Šarišská vrchovina mountain range at the confluence of the Mošurovanka and Ternianka streams in the Sekčov catchment area . Wide valleys and not very steep slopes are typical of the municipality. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 322 m nm and is 12.5 kilometers from Prešov .
Neighboring municipalities are Veľký Slivník in the north, Tulčík in the east, Fintice in the south and Terňa in the west.
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1285 when the Augustinian monastery in nearby Veľký Šariš received the place in an act of donation. With a few interruptions, the monastery was a landlord until the 16th century. In 1427 39 portals were recorded in a tax register. In modern times ownership changed between different nobles, in the 19th century the Dessewffy family owned goods in the village. In 1828 there were 70 houses and 544 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture and fruit growing. In the 19th century there was a mill, a quarry, a brick factory and a distillery.
Until 1918, the place in Sharosh County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. On September 2, 1944, shortly after the outbreak of the Slovak National Uprising , Sedikart suffered an air raid by the German Air Force.

According to the 2011 census, there were 964 inhabitants in Záhradné, of whom 930 were Slovaks and five Russian and five Czechs . 24 residents gave no information on ethnicity .
861 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 21 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, 11 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, three residents to the Orthodox Church, two residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses and one resident to the Pentecostal movement; two residents professed a different denomination. 30 residents had no denomination and 33 residents had no denomination.
