Petrovany (Slovak 1927–1948 only and until 1927 also "Petroviany"; German Petersdorf , Hungarian Tarcaszentpéter - until 1907 Szentpéter ) is a municipality in Eastern Slovakia with 1984 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the Okres Prešov , a district of the Prešovský kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the Košická kotlina basin on the left bank of the Torysa , partially separated from the village by the D1 motorway . The center of the village is at an altitude of 233 m nm , eight kilometers south of the center of Prešov .
Administratively, the municipality is divided into the districts Močarmany (until 1927 "Močiarmany", incorporated in 1965), Petrovany and Vysielač.
history
Petrovany was built in an older church in the 11th or 12th century. A church is mentioned in writing for the first time in 1304, the place in 1333. In 1828 98 houses and 772 inhabitants are recorded.
