Ľubovec (Hungarian Lubóc ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 515 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) in Prešov District , part of the Prešovský kraj , and is the traditional landscape Šariš counted.
geography
The village is located on the southern edge of the Šarišská vrchovina mountain range in the valley of a tributary of the Svinka . The center of the village is located at an altitude of 320 m nm and is 12 kilometers from Prešov .
The town of Ruské Pekľany (Hungarian Pillerpeklény ) , which was incorporated in 1964, also belongs to the municipality .
Neighboring communities are Radatice in the north, Ličartovce in the east, Obišovce and Veľká Lodina in the south, briefly Malá Lodina in the southwest and Suchá Dolina in the west.
history
Ľubovec was first mentioned in writing in 1337 as Lobolch as a property of the Aba family , after which the village was part of the territory of the castle near Kysak . In 1427 11 portals were listed in a tax register . At that time the village belonged to the Somosy family , in the 17th century Segney and from 1800 Pulszky . In 1828 there were 75 houses and 565 inhabitants who were employed as carters, farmers and seasonal forest workers.
Until 1918/1919 the place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Ľubovec had 508 inhabitants, 485 of whom were Slovaks , two Magyars and one each from Poland , Czech and Ukrainian . 18 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
308 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 157 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, four residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident to the Evangelical Methodist Church. 18 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination of 30 inhabitants was not determined.
