Žipov (Hungarian Sárosizsép - until 1907 Izsép ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 303 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) in Prešov District , part of the kraj Prešovský , and is the traditional landscape Šariš counted.
geography
The municipality is located in the southern part of the Šarišská vrchovina mountain range in the valley of the Kanovský creek in the catchment area of the Svinka . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 391 m nm and is 17 kilometers away from Prešov .
Neighboring municipalities are Ondrašovce in the north, Bajerov in the east, Kvačany in the south, Hrabkov in the southwest and Krížovany in the west.
history
Žipov was first mentioned in writing in 1354. In 1427, 21 portals were listed in a tax register . In the 18th century the village was owned by the Roll family .
In 1787 the village had 37 houses and 323 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 34 houses and 254 inhabitants who were employed as carters, woodcutters, farmers and manufacturers of dishes. The inhabitants took part in the Eastern Slovak Peasant Uprising in 1831 .
Until 1918/1919, the place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, agriculture and weaving were the main sources of income for the population. After the Second World War, part of the population worked in industrial plants in cities such as Prešov and Košice .

According to the 2011 census, Žipov had 281 residents, including 261 Slovaks , two Russians and one Czech . 17 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
221 residents confessed to the Roman Catholic Church, 39 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, two residents each to the Greek Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church and one resident of another denomination. Two residents had no denomination and the denomination of 14 residents was not determined.
