Margecany (German Margareten or Margetzan , Hungarian Margitfalva - until 1902 Margitfalu ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia .
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1235. Since 1960 the place Rolova Huta (German Phönixhütte or Rhollhütte , Hungarian Phőnikszhuta ) belongs to the municipality. The railway junction is particularly important for the community; here the route to Banská Bystrica branches off from the main Košice-Žilina line .
