Veľký Folkmar (until 1927 Slovak "Veľký Folkmar"; German United Volkmar , Hungarian Nagysolymár - until 1907 Nagyfolkmár ) a municipality in is east of Slovakia , with 903 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Gelnica , a circle of Košický kraj heard.
geography
The municipality is located in the eastern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains , more precisely in the lower part of Volovské vrchy on the Kojšovský creek . The center of the village is at an altitude of 370 m nm and the highest point in the municipality is the Folkmarská skala ( 921 m nm ). The Ružín reservoir is partially located in the municipality. The place is nine kilometers from Gelnica and 28 kilometers from Košice .
history
Veľký Folkmar was first mentioned in writing in 1336 as Villa Volkmari and the inhabitants were employed as charcoal burners, miners and foresters. In the beginning it was a typical village where mostly subjects of the Jekelfalussy family lived. At the end of the 15th century the place was bought by the Zápolya family, so it became part of the great dominion of the Spis Castle .
Veľký Folkmar was originally a village inhabited by Slovaks and Germans, but has been a Slovak village since the 18th century. In 1828 there are 84 houses and 605 inhabitants.
In 1992, when a house was being renovated, a collection of 65 ducats from the 15th and 16th centuries was found. Today this treasure is kept in the East Slovak Museum in Košice.
