Richnava (Slovak 1927-1948 "Rychnava"; German Reichenau or Richenau , Hungarian Rihnó - until 1927 Richnó ) is a municipality in the Okres Gelnica of Košický kraj in eastern Slovakia , with 3104 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) .
geography
The municipality is located on the southern slope of the Branisko Mountains , mostly on the left bank of the Hornád . On the opposite side is the Slovak Ore Mountains . Richnava is four kilometers from Krompachy .
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1246, but according to some sources the document is a forgery, as well as others in the 13th century. The first written mention is given in 1303 (as Ryhno ). There was a castle near Richnava in the Middle Ages, but this can only be proven in the 15th century. This made the place the seat of a manor. The castle was demolished in 1528 by the citizens of the city of Leutschau . In the 14th century the place was owned by the Pérényi family , since 1693 by the Csáky family . The main source of income for the population was agriculture, forestry and works in the town of Krompachy.
Until 1918 the place was in Zips County in the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . In 1945 the place was almost completely burned down by the German troops .
