Stará Voda (German backwater , Hungarian Óvíz ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 200 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Gelnica , a circle of kraj Košický heard and the traditional landscape Zips is counted.

The village is located on a small terrace in the northeastern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains , more precisely in the lower part of Volovské vrchy , in the valley of the Stará voda brook , a tributary of the Hnilec . The center of the village is at an altitude of 550 m nm and is 28 km by road from Gelnica and 30 km by road from Spišská Nová Ves .
history
In contrast to other places in the area, Stará Voda emerged relatively late in the 18th century as a mountain settlement next to a hammer mill and at that time belonged to the Smolník Chamber Estate . In 1828 there are 61 houses and 585 inhabitants. In addition to mining and forestry, nail manufacture was also widespread until the beginning of the 20th century.
