Švedlár (German Schwedler , Hungarian Svedlér ) is a municipality in Slovakia located in the Spiš .
Already in the 14th century settlers settled on the left bank of the Hnilec and founded the village. After a short time, Švedlár took on the character of a town and quickly gained in importance due to the copper smelting.
In the 19th century the importance declined and many residents emigrated. After the Second World War , almost all residents of German descent were expelled.
In the last few years there have been many changes in the place, due to the better economic situation a lot has been renovated and new shops have been opened.
