Ferdinand Klein

Ferdinand Martin Klein (born May 10, 1934 in Schwedler (Švedlár), Czechoslovakia ) is a German university professor for curative and special education , most recently taught at the Ludwigsburg University of Education , faculty for special education in Reutlingen in conjunction with the University of Tübingen .

Live and act

Small was u. a. five years teacher at the one-class village school in Pommer ( district of Forchheim ), studied curative and special education in Munich , worked twelve years as special school teacher or rector of the Erlangen Lebenshilfe school for people with intellectual disabilities . In addition to his professional activity, he devoted himself to studying pedagogy, psychology, neuropediatrics, sociology and philosophy. After his doctorate (1978) he taught at the universities of Würzburg , Mainz , Halle-Wittenberg (1992–1994 development director of the Institute for Rehabilitation Education at Martin Luther University ) and at the Faculty of Special Education in Reutlingen. After his retirement (1997) he worked at the Masaryk University Brno (Chair for Special Pedagogy of the Pedagogical Faculty), from 2000 to 2005 as DAAD visiting professor at the Comenius University in Bratislava (Protestant Theological Faculty, Chair for Curative Education at the Pedagogical Faculty) and the Konstantin University Nitra (chair for foreign languages ​​of the pedagogical faculty, here development of the course for primary school teachers "German as a foreign language") and from 2005 to 2012 at the world's oldest university for curative education, founded in 1900: the Gusztáv-Bárczi-Faculty for Curative and special education at the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. His voluntary work focuses on the Carpathian German minority in Slovakia, their 900-year history (tradition, culture and dialect language). With ideas, initiatives and support he is particularly effective in his hometown Schwedler, from which he was expelled at the age of ten.

On his 70th birthday, the book Contributions to a Pedagogy of Respect (Universitätsverlag Winter, Heidelberg 2004, ISBN 3-8253-8319-9 ) was dedicated to him. In it the editors Hartmut Sautter, Ursula Stinkes and Rainer Trost describe his life and work (pp. 7–13). The articles in this volume discuss the “pedagogy of respect” of the Polish doctor, writer and pedagogue Janusz Korczak, which he represents . Since the age of 18 (vacation work in the sanatorium and nursing home Bruckberg (near Ansbach) he has been educating severely and multiply handicapped people. There is no such thing as a disabled person. His broad and practical research focuses on: Korczak -Pedagogy, anthroposophical curative education, autism , basic-dialogical educational principle, basic questions of curative and special education, educational research methods, internationally comparative curative and special education, integration and inclusion education.
