The Branisko is a small mountain range in the inner Western Carpathians in the east of Slovakia , the traditional landscapes Zips and Šariš from each other. The mountain range extends from north to south. Its length is max. 18 km; the width varies from 3 to 8 km. The highest peaks are the Smrekovica ( 1200 m nm ) in the northern part and the Sľubica ( 1129 m nm ) in the southern part.
The Branisko borders the following geomorphological units: the Levoca Mountains ( Levočské vrchy ) and Spišská kotlina in the west and north, Bachureň in the Northeast, Šarišská highlands to the east and across the river Hornád at Čierna hora (part of the Slovak Ore Mountains ) in the south. The whole mountain range belongs to the Hornád catchment area.
Pine and spruce and coniferous forests grow at higher altitudes , while further deeper mixed forests with linden, oak and hornbeam dominate.
The longest Slovak motorway tunnel, the Branisko tunnel (4975 m long) , currently runs through the mountains .
