Vyšná šebastová (until 1948 Slovak "Vyšný Sebes"; Hungarian Felsősebes ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 1,315 (December 31, 2019) in Prešov District , part of the kraj Prešovský and becomes the traditional landscape Šariš counted.
geography
The village is located on the northern edge of the Košická kotlina basin by the Šebastovka brook ( Sekčov river system ). Smaller parts of the municipality protrude into the foothills of the Slanské vrchy Mountains. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 372 m nm and is eight kilometers from the center of Prešov .
Severná, north of the main town , also belonged to the municipality .
Neighboring municipalities are Kapušany in the north, Okružná in the east, Podhradík in the southeast, Teriakovce in the south, Prešov ( Šalgovík district ) in the southwest, Ľubotice in the west and again Prešov ( Nižná Šebastová district ) in the northwest.
history
Vyšná Šebastová was mentioned in writing for the first time in the years 1272–1290 as Feulsebus . In the 14th century it belonged to a certain magister named Sink and was part of the estate of the Šebeš Castle (located near today's Podhradík municipality). According to the tax register of 1427, there were a total of 30 portals here . The inhabitants largely belonged to the feudal lower class; they were employed in agriculture and horticulture. In 1828 there were 110 houses and 841 inhabitants.
Until 1918, the place in Sharosh County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Vyšná Šebastová had 1130 inhabitants, 1081 of whom were Slovaks, five Russians, four Ukrainians, two Czechs and one Magyar; one resident belonged to a different ethnic group. 36 residents gave no information in this regard. 900 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, 78 residents the Evangelical Church AB, 55 residents the Greek Catholic Church, 15 residents the Orthodox Church, two residents the Reformed Church and one resident each of the Jehovah's Witnesses and the Evangelical Methodist Church ; four residents professed a different denomination. 28 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination of 46 inhabitants was not determined.
