Chminianske jakubovany (1927-1948 Slovak "Nemecké Jakuboviany" - to 1927 "Nemecké Jakubovany" or "Jakuboviany"; German Jakobsdorf or German-Jakobsdorf , Hungarian Jakabvágás - to 1902 Németjakabvágás ) is a municipality and a town in eastern Slovakia , with 2,551 inhabitants (As of December 31, 2019). It is located in the Okres Prešov , a district of the Prešovský kraj .

The municipality is located in the Šarišská vrchovina mountains by the Jakubovianka brook . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 443  m nm and is 19 kilometers west of Prešov .

history

The place was founded at the beginning of the 14th century and is documented for the first time in writing in 1334 as Jacabuagasa . The village initially belonged to the Svinia estate , later to families such as Perényi, Hedry, Péchy and others. In 1427 there are 30 portals . In 1828 there were 70 houses and 535 residents in the village who were employed as farmers, fruit makers and carters. Part of the population also worked in factories in the surrounding cities. After the last German-speaking residents were expelled after 1945, the place name was changed to Chminianske Jakubovany in 1948 due to its proximity to Chmiňany .

The proportion of Gypsies (Roma) is in reality much higher, according to the 1991 census (50.44% of 1130 inhabitants) or statistics on the official website of the municipality: 2036 inhabitants, of which around 1579 Roma in the local Gypsy settlement. According to the municipality, however, no precise statistics can be produced due to the lack of reports of temporary or permanent residence.
