Klenov (1927-1948 "Klembarok" - to 1927 "Klembark"; German Klemberg , Hungarian Kelembér - until 1907 Klembérk ) is a small town in the east of Slovakia , with 235 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) in Prešov District , part of the Prešovský kraj , and is part of the traditional Šariš landscape .
geography
The municipality is located in the southern part of the Šarišská vrchovina mountain range and on the northern slope of the Čierna hora mountain range , on the upper reaches of the Sopotnica brook in the Hornád catchment area . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 542 m nm and is 16 kilometers from Gelnica , 20 kilometers from Krompachy and 25 kilometers from Prešov .
Neighboring municipalities are Žipov in the north, Kvačany in the northeast, Miklušovce in the east and southeast, Margecany in the south and southwest and Hrabkov in the west and northwest.
history
Klenov was first mentioned in writing in 1330 as part of the parish Clencberk or Clemberc . The place as such also existed earlier: according to the parish, a rectory was built in the 12th century. In the 14th century the village was owned by the Aba family . In 1427 there are 17 portals in a tax register. In 1787 the village had 62 houses and 436 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 69 houses and 531 inhabitants who were employed as carters, lime burners, charcoal burners, forest workers and weavers. In the hamlet of Bystré near Klenov there were three houses in 1828 and 25 residents lived there.
Until 1918, the place in Sharosh County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Klenov had 217 residents, 203 of whom were Slovaks and one each was Polish and Czech . 12 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
123 residents supported the Evangelical Church AB, 75 residents with the Roman Catholic Church and three residents with the Evangelical Church AB. Three residents were without a denomination and the denomination of 13 residents was not determined.
