Ľubotice (until 1948 in Slovak "Kelemeš"; in Hungarian Kellemes ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia . It is located in the northern foothills of the Košická kotlina at the foot of the Slanské vrchy and is traversed by the Sekčov river. The city center of Prešov is about 4 km to the west.

Church in place

The place was mentioned for the first time in 1285 as Kellemes , in 1948 the name was changed to a Slavic sounding for national political reasons. The original name is said to have its origin in the Hungarian word kellemes (dt. "Pleasant"), which is also used by today's name, which is derived from ľúby (= "lovely"). From 1970 to 1990 it was a district of the city of Prešov, in 1990 today's part of the municipality Šarišské Lúky , which was also incorporated into Prešov since 1970, became part of the municipality.

Sights include the Roman Catholic Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary from 1806 and a former synagogue (1833) in the Šarišské Lúky district, which today serves as a Greek Catholic temple.

The west-east state road I / 18 runs through the village and there is a train station (in the Šarišské Lúky district) on the Strážske – Prešov railway line .
