Abranovce (until the 19th century Slovak also "Obranovce" (in former spelling "Obranowce"); Hungarian Ábrány - older even Abrányfalva ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 696 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) in Prešov District , a Part of the Prešovský kraj , and is part of the traditional Šariš landscape .
geography
The municipality is located in the northern part of the Košická kotlina basin at the foot of the Slanské vrchy mountains to the east . The area belongs to the Torysa catchment area , but the community itself has no streams or rivers to speak of. The municipality is hilly, in the western part used for agriculture, in the eastern part covered by a forest. The center of the village is at an altitude of 446 m nm and is 13 kilometers from Prešov .
Neighboring municipalities are Kokošovce in the north, Zlatá Baňa in the northeast, Lesíček in the east, Žehňa in the south and Dulova Ves in the west.
history
The place originated in the 13th century, was first mentioned in writing as Abran in 1320 and was then a property of the Aba family . In 1427 there were 10 portals in the place according to a tax register . In the 15th century the village was owned by the Raszlaviczky family , in the 17th century by the Segney , Pálffy and Kapi families , and in the 18th century by the Nemessány family . In 1787 the village had 39 houses and 236 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 44 houses and 343 inhabitants, whose main sources of income were forestry and agriculture.
Until 1918, the place in Sharosh County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Abranovce had 619 inhabitants, 581 of whom were Slovaks and 12 Roma . 26 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
422 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 145 residents to the Greek Catholic Church and 17 residents to the Evangelical Church AB; five residents professed a different denomination. Six residents had no denomination and the denomination of 24 residents was not determined.
