Drienovská Nová Ves (1973-1980 Slovak "Drienovská Nová Ves" - until 1927 "Dřínovská Nová Ves", Hungarian Somosújfalu ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 834 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) in Prešov District , part of the Prešovský kraj , and is part of the traditional Šariš landscape .

Seat of the municipal administration

The village is located at the meeting point of the Šarišská vrchovina mountain range with the northern part of the Košická kotlina basin in the Torysa valley . The Novoveský potok flows right through the village . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 220  m nm and is 12 kilometers away from Prešov .

Neighboring municipalities are Kendice in the north, Petrovany in the northeast, Drienov in the east and southeast, Ličartovce in the south and Radatice in the west.

history

Church in Drienovská Nová Ves

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1335 as Wyfolua and at that time it was part of the dominion of Drienov. In 1427 there are 11 portals . Important owners were the families Bocskay and Horváth in the 16th century , Mariássy in the 17th century , then Dessewffy in 1753 . In the 18th century the village was a health resort. The last large landowners came from the Andrássy family . In 1828 there were 40 houses and 316 inhabitants, whose main sources of income were lime kilns and agriculture. In the course of the 19th century a quarry and a brick factory were built. The first elementary school was established in 1904.

Until 1918, the place in Sharosh County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 750 inhabitants lived in Drienovská Nová Ves, including 676 Slovaks , 30 Roma , two Czechs and one German and one Magyar . One resident indicated a different ethnic group and 39 residents gave no information about the ethnic group .

561 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 106 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, 12 residents to the Greek Catholic Church and two residents to the Orthodox Church. 25 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 44 residents was not determined.
