Kvačany (until 1927 Slovak and "Šarišské Kvačany"; Hungarian Kacsány - until 1907 Kvacsány ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 290 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) in Prešov District of, part kraj Prešovský , and is the traditional landscape Šariš counted.
geography
The municipality is located in the southern part of the Šarišská vrchovina mountain range in the valley of the Kvačiansky creek in the Svinka catchment area . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 389 m nm and is 17 kilometers away from Prešov .
Neighboring municipalities are Žipov in the north, Bajerov in the east, Sedlice in the southeast, Miklušovce in the south and Klenov in the west.
history
Kvačany was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1626 as a Quaczian . At the beginning of the 18th century the village belonged to the Joanelli family .
In 1787 the village had 28 houses and 205 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 35 houses and 284 inhabitants who were employed as carters, lumberjacks and traders, pipe makers and spinners. The inhabitants took part in the Eastern Slovak Peasant Uprising in 1831 .
Until 1918/1919, the place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, agriculture was the main source of income for the population. After the Second World War, part of the population worked in industrial plants in cities such as Prešov and Košice .

According to the 2011 census, Kvačany had 271 residents, including 269 Slovaks . Two residents did not provide any information about their ethnicity .
153 residents professed to be part of the Roman Catholic Church, 105 residents to the Greek Catholic Church and two residents to the Evangelical Church AB. Seven residents had no denomination and four residents had no denomination.
