Lipovce (up to 1927 "Lipovec"; German Lipholz , Hungarian Szinyelipóc ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 522 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) in Prešov District , part of the kraj Prešovský , and is the traditional landscape Šariš counted.

The village is located at the point where the Šarišská vrchovina Mountains merge into the Branisko and Bachureň Mountains . The main town is traversed by the Lipovec brook, a little to the west the Lačnovský potok breaks through the Lačnovský kaňon gorge . Both rivers are part of the Svinka catchment area . The Kamenná Baba National Nature Reserve has also been located to the west of Lipovce since 1964 . There are several mineral springs in the municipality, of which Salvator is the best known. The center of the village is at an altitude of 587  m nm and is 27 kilometers from Prešov .

Administratively, the municipality is divided into parts of the municipality Lačnov (incorporated in 1991, until the 19th century also "Lačné"; hist. Hungarian Lacsnó ) and Lipovce.

Neighboring communities are Renčišov in the north, briefly Uzovské Pekľany and Jarovnice in the northeast, Hermanovce in the east, Štefanovce in the southeast, Šindliar in the south, very briefly Poľanovce in the southwest, Vyšný Slavkov in the west and Nižný Slavkov in the northwest.

Lipovce was first mentioned in writing as Lypouch in 1320 ; In the same year, the estate of Svinia was divided , with the village falling to a certain Benedek , son of the noble Nicholas. Later the village belonged to the families Berzeviczy , Doby , Zichy and finally Sziney . The royal Lipholz Castle was built in the 13th century, but was razed in 1591 at the end of an uprising. In 1427 a total of 27 portals were recorded in a tax register. In 1787 Lipovce had 67 houses and 516 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 73 houses and 551 inhabitants, who lived mainly from agriculture, sheep farming and partly forestry as well as the production of clapboard and agricultural tools. A paper mill also operated in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Until 1918, the place in Sharosh County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, there were 523 residents in Lipovce, including 507 Slovaks and one Russian and one Czech; one resident indicated a different ethnic group. 13 residents gave no information in this regard. 475 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 13 residents to the Greek Catholic Church and one resident to the Evangelical Church AB; three residents professed a different denomination. 16 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 15 residents was not determined.
