Vyšný Slavkov (German upper hose , Hungarian Felsőszalók ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 262 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Levoča , a circle of Prešovský kraj , as well as the traditional landscape Zips .
geography
The village is located between the Leutschauer Mountains and the Branisko Mountains in the valley of the Slavkovský brook . The center of the village is at an altitude of 561 m nm and is 19 kilometers from Spišské Podhradie and 32 kilometers from Levoča .
Neighboring municipalities are Nižný Slavkov in the north, Lipovce in the east, Poľanovce in the south and Bijacovce in the west.
history
In today's municipality there was a hill settlement of the Puchau culture .
The first written mention of the area comes from the beginning of the 13th century, the place itself was mentioned for the first time in 1347 as Wzalouk or Owzalouk . The name (literally "Old Zalouk") bore the place to distinguish it from today's place Nižný Slavkov. The village was owned by the Polyankai family , later various families of the lower nobility. In 1828 there were 89 houses and 644 inhabitants.
Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Vyšný Slavkov had 307 inhabitants, including 284 Slovaks and one Czech . 22 residents gave no information on ethnicity .
273 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church and two residents supported the Greek Catholic Church. Two residents had no denomination and the denomination of 30 residents was not determined.
