Granč-Petrovce (German Gran sealed-Petersdorf or Gran sealed-Petrowitz , Hungarian Garancspetróc - until 1907 Grancspetróc ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 622 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Levoča , a circle of Prešovský kraj and to traditional landscape Spiš .
geography
The community is located in the eastern part of the Hornádska kotlina basin, not far from the Branisko Mountains . The Branisko brook flows through the village . The center of the village is at an altitude of 458 m nm and is five kilometers from Spišské Podhradie and 19 kilometers from Levoča .
Neighboring municipalities are Bijacovce in the north, Beharovce in the northeast, Harakovce in the east, Žehra in the south and Spišské Podhradie in the west.
history
The history of the municipality is composed of the history of the places Granč and Petrovce, which merged into one municipality in the middle of the 19th century.
The current municipal area was permanently settled shortly after the Mongol invasion: Petrovce was first mentioned in writing in 1292 as Petrouchsegra , Granč in 1344 as Granch . The second-named place belonged to the tiny Sedes X lanceatorum county ("Cities of the 10 Lancers") until 1802 .
In 1828 there were 15 houses and 117 inhabitants in Granč and 15 houses and 118 inhabitants in Petrovce.
The municipality in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia, or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Granč-Petrovce had 601 inhabitants, 592 of whom were Slovaks and one Czech; two residents were of a different ethnicity. Six residents made no statement. 572 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, four residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident each to the Greek Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church. 16 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 13 residents was not determined.
