Uloža (until 1927 Slovak "Uloža"; German Köppern , Hungarian Kőperény - until 1907 Ulozsa ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 203 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Levoča , a circle of kraj Prešovský as well as for traditional Landscape of Spiš .

geography

The community is located on the southern slope of the Leutschauer Berge below the Krúžok pass ( 963  m nm ). Several streams originate in the vicinity that belong to the Hornád catchment area , including the Levočský potok . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 884  m nm and is seven kilometers from Levoča .

Neighboring communities are Vyšné Repaše in the northeast, briefly Jablonov in the east, Klčov and Doľany in the south, Spišský Hrhov in the southwest and Levoča in the west and north.

history

Uloža was first mentioned in writing as Olusa in 1280 and was subject to the nearby city of Leutschau until 1848. The village fell victim to constant disputes between Leutschau and Käsmark at least twice : in 1531 and 1532 it was plundered. In 1553 4.5 porta were recorded here. In 1828 there were 56 houses and 403 inhabitants who were mainly employed in agriculture and livestock.

Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

population

According to the 2011 census, 193 residents lived in Uloža, including 187 Slovaks, two Russians and one Magyar and one Roma. Two residents made no statement. 168 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, ten residents the Greek Catholic Church and one resident of the Reformed Church; one resident was of a different denomination. Nine residents were non-denominational and four residents had no denomination.
