Domaňovce (1927-1976 Slovak "Domaňovce"; German Damannsdorf or wholesale Toms village , Hungarian Dománfalva - 1888-1902 Domán - to 1888 Domanyóc ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 926 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Levoča , a district of the Prešovský kraj and the traditional Spiš landscape .

geography

The village is located in the Hornádska kotlina basin in the Lodina creek valley ( Hornád river system ). The center of the village is at an altitude of 436  m nm and is twelve kilometers from Spišské Podhradie and Spišská Nová Ves and 13 kilometers from Levoča .

Neighboring municipalities are Spišský Hrhov and Klčov in the north, Buglovce in the northeast, Spišský Hrušov in the east, Jamník in the south, Danišovce in the west and a very short section Levoča in the northwest.

history

Domaňovce was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1258 as Daman and in the Middle Ages belonged mainly to the estate of the Spiš Castle . Important rulers in modern times came from the Csáky and Wieland families . In 1787 there were 61 houses and 456 inhabitants and in 1828 77 houses and 577 inhabitants, who were mainly employed in agriculture and as masons. From the 1870s to the time of the first Czechoslovak Republic there was a distillery in the village.

Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

population

According to the 2011 census, Domaňovce had 942 inhabitants, 842 of whom were Slovaks, 32 Roma and one each Polish and Czech. 71 residents did not answer. 848 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, twelve residents the Greek Catholic Church and one resident each for the Orthodox Church and the Reformed Church. Ten residents were non-denominational and the denomination of 75 residents was not determined.
