Jamník (German Jemnig or Jemnick , Hungarian Szepesárki - until 1907 Jamnik ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 1,203 (December 31, 2019) and is part of the Spišská Nová Ves District , part of the kraj Košický as well as for traditional landscape Zips .
geography
The municipality is located in the southern part of the Hornádska kotlina basin in the valley of the Jamníček stream , a tributary of the Hornád on the left bank . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 455 m nm and is ten kilometers from Spišská Nová Ves .
Neighboring municipalities are Domaňovce in the north, Spišský Hrušov in the east, Chrasť nad Hornádom in the southeast, Matejovce nad Hornádom in the south and Odorín and Danišovce in the west.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1277 as Yempnik . In the 13th century the village belonged to the dominion of the Spis Castle , from 1453 until the abolition of serfdom in 1848 the town of Leutschau was a landlord. For a long time Jamník remained an agricultural village that had to pay natural produce and other taxes to Leutschau on a regular basis. In 1828 there were 58 houses and 422 inhabitants.
Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
population
According to the 2011 census, 1123 inhabitants lived in Jamník, of which 1111 were Slovaks and one each was Polish, Russian and Czech. In the case of nine inhabitants, there is no information on ethnicity. 1088 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church, two residents to the Greek Catholic Church and one resident each to the Jehovah's Witnesses, to the Evangelical Church AB, to the Orthodox Church. 17 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 13 residents was not determined.
